Joe Clifford has been swimming for the Hauppauge Swim Club for 6 years. He swam for Smithtown Boy’s Varsity Swim Team and was a co-captain this past year. Joe competed in Silvers, JO’s, Sr. Mets and Counties over the years. He is an All League and All County recipient for the past 3 years. Joe plans on swimming in college next year. He will be attending the University of Scranton or SUNY at New Paltz. He hasn’t made his final decision. He would like to thank all of his coaches for always pushing him to do better. HAA has become his second family. |
Candice Clifford![]() |
Candice Clifford has been a member of Hauppauge Swim Club for six years and swam on the Smithtown Girls Varsity Swim Team. When she is not swimming she enjoys teaching swimming lessons. Candice is also a member of the National and Spanish Honor Societies at her High School. Recently Candice was named “Volunteer of the Year”, at her High School. In the fall, Candice will either attend the University of Scranton or St. Joseph’s College where she will major in Elementary Special Education. She hopes to one day become a High School Guidance Counselor. Candice would like to thank her parents and all of the coaches that have given her support during her time on this team. |
Robert Coombs![]() |
Robert Coombs has been swimming for the Hauppauge swim club since he was 9 years old. He remembers slamming the car door and then proceeding to sulk the whole car ride to the swimming pool when he was in 4th grade. He then began varsity swimming and he swam all through high school, earning four letters. His last year he went all league and all county and was awarded with the Coach’s most improved award. He felt very rewarded after his last year of varsity swimming, through his own hard work. He is now deciding between Ithaca College or College at Oneonta, but he would prefer Ithaca. |
Tara Grieco

Tara Grieco has been swimming for Coach Ray on HAA since she was 11 years old. She has developed life-long friendships on the team and along the way participated in Silvers, J.O’s and County Championships. She is the Captain of the Smithtown Girls Varsity Swim Team, 4 year letter earner, All League and White Letter Award recipient. Tara is the Senior Class President at High School West. She is the Vice-President of the English National Honor Society. She is News Editor of the Bulls Eye and Copy Editor of Penumbra. She is also a member of the Scholastic Quiz Bowl team, and National and Italian Honor societies. She is a recent G.S Gold award recipient. Tara will attend Holy Cross. |
Rebecca Kraut![]() |
Rebecca is graduating from Smithtown High School West. She has been swimming competitively since she was 10 years old. Her swimming accomplishments include participating on the Smithtown Varsity Swim Team for all four years of high school, swimming for Hauppauge Swim Club, the 2005 JCC Maccabi Games in St. Paul Minnesota and the 2006 JCC Maccabi Games in Vancouver, Canada. Her school accomplishments include being a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and Math Honor Society. In the fall of 2008, she will be attending the University of Rhode Island to study Marine Biology and Oceanography. |
Eric LeClaire![]() |
Eric began swimming for the Hauppauge Swim Club in 2002. He participated in Silvers; JO’s and Senior Met championship meets. He swam for Hauppauge High School Varsity Swimming all four years of High School. He obtained All League and State Quals between 2004 and 2008 for the 100 Breast Stroke and 50 free. He came in 4th place for the 100 Breast Stroke at State Quals 2008. He intends to continue his efforts at SUNY New Paltz on their Varsity Team. His hope is also to pursue a career in the sciences and or engineering field. Eric would like to thank his coaches for their continued dedication and encouragement in helping him achieve his best potential in swimming. |
Jade Plaschka![]() |
Jade has been swimming with the Hauppauge Sea Eagles swim team since the 7th grade. She participated in meets such as Zone Quals, Senior Mets and Sectionals. Jade has also been on the Hauppauge Varsity swim team for 4 years where she was co-captain in her junior and senior year. She achieved All League, All County and was a member of the State Relay team. As a student, Jade has managed to be on the high honor roll throughout High School. She is an AP scholar, a student athlete, member of the National Honor Society and the German Honor Society. Jade plans to continue swimming in college and is considering attending Suny Geneseo, Wesleyan University or Franklin & Marshall. She would like to thank her family for always being there. Ryan TerBush![]() |
Ryan is an 11-year veteran of HAA, who has participated in Sectionals, JO’s, Zone Qual’s, Senior Mets and Empire State Games. He is the recipient of the LI Swimming Official’s Scholar Athlete Award and Simons Research Fellowship Award. He was selected as an Intel Semifinalist, National Merit Commended Student, finalist of the US Physics team, Suffolk County Math All Star, AP Scholar with Distinction and President of the National Math Honor Society. Ryan would like to thank his parents, brother, coaches and teammates for their positive support and dedication throughout the years. He will be attending MIT in the fall. |
