Ray Willie - sweem@optonline.net - Head Coach
Ray is a graduate of the University at Buffalo and has a masters degree in applied Mathematics from Stony Brook University. An accomplished athlete, he received many awards at the University at Buffalo, including top newcomer, MVP, top scholar awards. He was also recognized by the NCAA and was a 14 All American. Most recently he has been recognized by the University at Buffalo by being placed into their athletic Hall of Fame. Forever memorializing him as a great asset to the sport of swimming. He is an active member of the Suffolk county coaches association as their secretary. He also has coached the Hauppauge High School Girls Varsity program since 2004. He has been published in Swimming World magazine three times for his commitment to excellence and has been noted for his unique drill strategies. He has been consulted on numerous occasions for his knowledge of intensity training and the effects of training with metronomes.

Ray teaches high school mathematics at East Islip High School. Including Computer programming and Statistics. He has wonderful wife, Dawn, and three daughters, Cassandra , Madeline and Raina.

Through his years of coaching he has coached several Top 16 nationally ranked swimmers, sectional qualifiers and Junior national qualifiers. He began coaching for the Cheektowaga Stingrays in Buffalo in 1992. Upon return to Long Island he returned to his alma mata and coached for TVSC. Ray has been the head coach for the Hauppauge Swim Club since 2000.


Mike Kane - Coach

Mike was a USA swimmer for the North Shore swim club and a HS Varsity swimmer for Ward Melville. He attended competed in many highly competitive USA meets such as zones, sectionals and juniors and he was an All County swimmer for varsity. He swam Division 1 for Duke University and also attended Stony Brook University. He is currently a Social Studies Teacher in the Half Hollow Hills School district. Before coming to HAA he coached for 6 years at North Shore Swim Club.


Brianne Navetta - Coach

Brianne swam for Ward Melville High School and North Shore Swim Club in high school. She graduated from the University of Delaware in May 2006 with a degree in a Biology and Psychology. She coached a swim team in Kennett Area Pennsylvania during her senior year of college and was also a member of the Delaware Water Polo team. Currently she is taking classes at Stony Brook University and hopes to persue a career in Medicine.


Rob Faber - Coach

Rob has coached Age Group swimmers for over 20 years. Previously he coached for Lindenhurst and Farmingdale swim teams. Rob swam age-group for Lindenhurst for 10 years. Rob started coaching with Hauppauge in September 2002.


Julia Gould - Coach

Julia Gould started coaching with HAA in November 2005. Previous to coaching, she swam USS for eleven years. Three of these years were at HAA. During that time she qualified for meets such as Senior Mets, JOS, and Zone quals. During high school, Julia held many team records and was an All League/ All county swimmer. Before coming to HAA, Julia taught swimming lessons for over five years. She is currently a junior at St. Josephs college where she is child study and speech major. She plans on graduating in December of 2007. She is also on the St. Josephs college swim team where she holds team records in the 100 IM, 200 IM, 400 IM, 200 Fly, and 5 relays. During the summer she also works for the Town of Babylon as an assistant head instructor in their swimming lesson program.


Brandon Modrov - Coach

Brandon Modrov began his swim career as a Hauppauge Sea Eagle and now he returns as a coach. Brandon was on an academic and athletic swimming scholarship for all four years at Division 1 Rider University.

He accomplished the following during his four years of swimming: The first and only swimmer at Rider University to be selected as Male Athlete of the Year (2006). The 2006 and 2007 Mid Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Male Swimmer Of The Year (MVP). Rider University Swim Team MVP for 2006 and 2007. Rider Athlete of the Month for February, 2006. The first Rider University Swimmer in school history to ever win a gold medal at the East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship Meet with his 2005 400 IM swim. Four time MAAC swimmer of the week.

Throughout the four years of swimming he won 14 gold medals, 2 silver medals, 3 bronze medals at MAACs and 5 gold medals and 4 silver medals at ECACs. He holds the MAAC Championship Meet Records in the 100 Breast (56.29) and in the 400 IM (3:59.75). He also holds the Rider School Records in the 100 Breast (56.29), 200 Breast (2:03.16), 200 IM (1:51.20), 400 IM (3:59.75), 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay, 800 Free Relay and the Rider Pool Records in the 100 Breast, 400 IM, 200 Medley Relay, 400 Medley Relay, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay.

Brandon also competed in the 2002 and 2003 Empire State Games where he was back to back gold medalist in the 400 IM and he still holds the Hauppauge Varsity Swim Team Record in the 100 Breast. His brother Drew swam for Hauppauge as an All-American in the 50 Free. Brandon and his sister, Priscilla were featured in the Faces In The Crowd section of Sports Illustrated for their 2006 MAAC Performance as they were both named MVP of the meet. Alison Porteus - Coach


Alison has a long history of swimming starting out with my former swimming for the USA swim team in CT. called the Wilton Wahoos. With them she swam at a Senior National level and was top ten in the nation for the 100 and 200 breastsroke. She also swam at her high school, Kennedy, where she placed second in the State. She continued to swim at a Division-I level for Stony Brook University where she consistently placed top five in her conference. She is also a SUNY Stony Brook Record holder in the 100 breast, 200 breast, 200 medley relay and 400 medleay relay. She just graduated from Stony Brook with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology. In addition to competing she also coached swim camps with former Olympian Glen Mills, head coach of the Turtle Rock Rockets in Irvine California, and has been a swim instructor at a JCC in New York Good Luck to Alison as she pursues her new Career in NYCity!


Brendan Crane - Juniors Coach

Brendan has been the Hauppauge Swim Team Juniors Coach September 2000. Brendan's swimmers have consistently achieved Silver, Junior-Olympic and Zone Qualifying times. Each year his swimmers represent Hauppauge on the Zone team at the summer Zones in Buffalo.

As a USS swimmer Brendan represented the metro team at the Zone Competition so he knows what competitive swimming is all about.

Brendan has coached the Hauppauge High School Boys' Varsity team since the 04-05 season. He consistently has swimmers who qualify for all league, all county and all state. The team has more than doubled in participants since he starting coaching. He also coached the Hauppauge Middle School team during the 05-06 school year. Brendan has a Bachelors degree in Mathematics from Dowling College. He has been a High School Math teacher in the Patchogue-Medford School district since May 2004.

We wish Brendan lots of best wishes as he works on him MBA this year. We will miss seeing him everyday at the pool.


Shinaide McAleavey - Coach

Shinaide is a graduate of Saint Joseph's College with a degree in child psychology. Shinaide has been coaching with the Hauppauge Swim Club since 2001. She works with all levels of our swimmers and is highly respected for her knowledge of each individual swimmer's strengths and weaknesses.
